Training Opportunities at Camp Baker

Judge Baker is unique in its integration of research, training, and practice in child mental health. We recognize our role in training the children’s mental health leaders of tomorrow, and welcome applications from interested individuals.  

The positions available at Camp Baker include:

  • Behavior Support Specialist assists Camp Baker staff in implementing the behavioral treatment program, works to develop and monitor individualized treatment plans, and provides behavioral support for physical management when needed.

  • Graduate and Undergraduate Counselors implement behavior modification treatment during recreational activities, and coach the following sports: basketball, soccer, and kickball. Counselors will provide positive reinforcement, teach social skills, and facilitate problem-solving discussions. All counselors are responsible for recording and entering behavioral data, developing individualized treatment goals, monitoring progress towards goals, and communicating with parents. Counselors will also be expected to write treatment summaries at the end of the program.

  • Classroom Teachers & Teaching Assistants implement behavior modification programs that are designed to treat children's problems in a classroom context. During the academic component, teachers and assistants teach basic reading, math, and science skills, as well as team-building and group problem-solving activities. Teachers and assistants will also assist with data collection, data entry, and report writing.

This is a great opportunity for students interested in psychology, education, child development, or other service-related fields. The selection process is competitive; thus interested students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. We are looking for intelligent, dedicated people who not only have experience working with children, but who are also knowledgeable about sports such that they can appropriately coach each child.

Camp Baker is a six week program. Counselors, teachers, and assistants are required to attend a week long training the week before the program. Additionally, one evening a week, Graduate Counselors will co-facilitate parent training while Undergraduate Counselors will provide child care services while parents attend the weekly parenting group.


Interested candidates should send:

  • A cover letter describing your professional development goals and how SEI might fit in with those goals
  • A current CV
  • A de-identified assessment report, treatment report, or other psychology-related writing sample
  • The name and contact of your practicum coordinator (for applicants looking to gain practicum or academic credit)
  • Three letters of recommendation (sent to Dr. Tannenbaum from the recommender directly)
